Part 3 of ISO20000 includes guidance on the scope applicability of the IT Service Management System (SMS) as defined in Part 1 of the Standard (ISO20000-1).
ISO20000-3 provides guidance on the scope definition and applicability of ISO20000-1, and will help you establish if ISO20000-1 is applicable to your organisation's circumstances. The guidance in this Standard takes the form of practical examples, typical scenarios and recommendations that show how the scope of an SMS can be defined, whether or not you have experience of defining the scope of management systems.
Service providers can provide a range of services to several different types of customers, and can also depend on a complex supply chain for the delivery of services. With service management processes therefore crossing many organisational, legal and national boundaries as well as different time zones, the application of scope can be a complex stage in the service provider's use of ISO20000-1. ISO20000-3 will assist with this endeavour.
ISO20000-3 is useful for service providers, consultants and assessors as it provides practical guidance on scope definition, applicability and demonstration of conformity to the requirements in ISO/IEC 20000-1. Guidance on the different types of conformity assessment and assessment Standards is also included.
ISO20000-3:2012 also assists in planning service improvements and in preparation for a conformity assessment against ISO20000-1. It supplements the guidance on the application of ISO20000-1 given in ISO20000-2.
